The second phase of a project that involves algorithmically amalgamating the poems of St-Denys Garneau and Alain Grandbois, [Regards] et
jeux dans les Îles de la (pensée mécanique) reveals the secret language of the machine. As the typewriter forms a hybrid text, the paper appears to enter the screen, where human corrections scroll by to make the poem coherent. A mechanized visualization of this process generates patterns, while software recites the poems. The machine produces, corrects, prints and disseminates ad infinitum elements of our collective memory; it completes the production loop itself, creating the strange sensation that it is self-sufficient. Assimilating human actions, it creates a performance in which a singular aesthetic takes shape, in its own automated language.
