Founded in Montreal in 1978, the ACREQ (Association pour la recherche et la création électroacoustiques du Québec) is interested in possible connections between electronic music and different artistic practices that harness the creative potential of technology.

Since 1999, the ACREQ has been grouping its presentations, previously presented throughout the year, in an international digital art festival called Elektra, thereby contributing to a wider recognition of this emerging art. Elektra is a Montreal-based cultural event presenting works from artists who combine cutting-edge electronic music and visual creations emerging from new technologies.

Since 2007, ACREQ has been developing a professional component, the International Marketplace for Digital Arts [IMDA], which brings together important representatives from the international digital scene to share ideas, encourage new collaborations and stimulate the international presence of local artists.

In 2012, ACREQ introduces a new activity: the International Digital Arts Biennial (BIAN). This major exhibition, featuring vernissages and special events, takes you on a journey through the digital arts, visiting to the most important sites for contemporary creation in Montréal.
